Positive youth development is an important focus for the Atascadero Greyhound Foundation Board. It is a core belief that youth need to acquire positive attitudes, competencies, values, and social skills in order to become healthy successful adults. As our youth grow they need to acquire personal assets and supports that will help them face the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Young people are best able to develop these needed resources if they are supported by individuals, families, schools, local governance, businesses, and agencies. Our board is dedicated to helping provide activities, resources, and experiences that support this development. Youth Leadership is a common thread that runs through our programs. The AGF Board met for an action planning session in the fall of 2020 and determined that increasing opportunities for youth leadership is a main focus of work. We currently provide opportunities for youth leadership through the LIGHTHOUSE Atascadero Mentoring Program (L.A.M.P.), the student run LIGHTHOUSE Coffee Company, the Hares and Hounds Race Event, and by including the voices of our youth on our board of directors.
